Mr. Justin Jenks
My name is Justin Jenks and I am thrilled to be serving Brummitt Elementary School as the dean of students this school year. Throughout my career, I have heard amazing things about the Brummitt students, families, and staff members. I couldn’t be more excited to work with all of you!
In 2011 I graduated from Chesterton High School. I enjoyed the community and my schooling career so much that I decided to return to Duneland as a teacher in 2015. Over the last eight years, I have taught 3rd and 5th grade, coached baseball, and served as the interim assistant principal at Liberty Intermediate School.
When I am not at school I enjoy rooting for my favorite sports teams such as the Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and of course the Boilermakers! Also, when the weather is nice and the waves on Lake Michigan are calm, I enjoy taking my boat out to fish for salmon, trout, and perch.

My first teaching position was for 2.5 years at Wanatah Elementary. I then transitioned to Purdue Northwest as the director of Childcare for 5.5 years. In 2020, I came to Duneland Schools to teach at Brummitt Elementary and have loved using my teaching experience and knowledge of early childhood education in my Kindergarten classroom. I attended Purdue University where I earned my dual degree in Elementary and Special Education. Upon graduating, I served as the lead teacher for an Autism and Emotional Disabilities program for several years. After relocating, I was hired by Duneland as a Title 1 Aide and was then promoted to the position of RTI Math Instructor. I am currently teaching at Brummitt Elementary as the Applied Skills teacher and love every moment of it! I’m a bit of a busy body! I dabble in lots of different things, like painting, swimming, kayaking, and yoga. When I’m not teaching, you can find me spending time with my children and husband. When it’s warm, I enjoy riding on the back of my husband's motorcycle, hanging out at the lake with my kiddos, or getting out in nature. During our long winters, I’m snuggled up on the couch with my dog reading a book or watching TV.

I was born and raised in the Midwest, living in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Indiana. I received my teaching degree from Purdue University in 1997. Shortly after graduation, I made the decision to stay home and begin a family. We moved to Jackson Township in 2008, and I spent many years volunteering in the classrooms at Jackson Elementary. I also began my own business making and selling handmade pottery on the wheel. As my children grew, I decided to reenter the workforce as an art teacher at Griffith Elementary Schools in 2018. The following year, I accepted the position of art teacher at Brummit Elementary. My husband and I have four children, all of whom attend(ed) Duneland schools from elementary through high school. Duneland has provided an exceptional education for my children, with my oldest two going on to receive full merit scholarships. My younger children (twins) are students at CHS. I enjoy making pottery on the wheel, hiking, and spending time with my family.
